EXPERIMENTAL EYES #1 - POP OF ORANGE

Friday, 1 August 2014

Now Summer is here, I thought it'd be a good time to start being more experimental with my eye makeup and add in some colour. I always try purples and blues with little success and never really contemplated orange-coral colours until I saw 2 colours from my Sleek Blush By 3 in Lace that I thought could make an interesting eye look... and I really love the result.

I used quite a large variety of products within the process so I'll try and keep this short and sweet. The Avon Eye Primer was the first step to blank out the lids and avoid creasing, followed by a coat of the Dainty Doll Cream Blush in Billion Dollar Babies (is it cheek products for eye shadow day today?!), as well as the MUA Colour Blast Shadow Stick in Stay all over the lid, with the Stila Smudge Stick in Oscar Fish blended into the outside corners. I then took the contour colour from the Sleek Face Form through the crease to warm things up as well as putting Half Baked from Urban Decay in the centre of the lids.

On the lower lashline I put the Stila Smudge Stick in Angelfish, followed by Chantilly from the Sleek Blush By 3 (also pushed into the waterline) as well as Crochet on the outer half. I did this with a small dense tapered brush to really pack on the colour and used the same technique to focus this bright colour on the outer crease. I took the brush I used for the contour colour very lightly to blend the edges.

The liner is a mix of the Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Blackest Black and Barry M's Blink Waterproof Pen. On my lashes is a coat of Soap and Glory Thick & Fast followed by the Sheercover Lash Fibres and then Too Faced Lash Gasm Mascara on top of them.

I said I wouldn't ramble but would you look at that... I did. With simple glowy skin and a nude pout I predict this look will be getting a lot more wear from me in the upcoming weeks. Also, watch this space, this morning I photographed a pink and gold look for you so maybe this can become a mini 'experimental eyes' series?

YET ANOTHER SUMMER SHOE

Tuesday, 24 June 2014

Shoe hauling, again? New look, again? New Look have really been winning on the shoe front recently, and as I am off to Madrid very soon, I thought it'd be a wise idea to get something a little more open in case I don't want to be stuck in my Vans all day long.

I was looking for these for a long time, I originally found some in River Island but Megan got them and I thought I wouldn't copy her (although I do for the majority of other things) and after seeing similar in New Look for £19.99 I was determined to buy them . I saw them in a size 5, stupidly didn't buy them and then they went out of stock everywhere in a 5 and I kind of gave up on them. But... my mum managed to locate some on a trip to the town today and I haven't been so happy about shoes for a while now.

I went for black as I thought they'd go with all of my wardrobe, and I love that they are some sort of sandal-shoe 'cage' hybrid, as I can get away with them when it isn't too warm as well as in the hot weather. I also like that it covers the toe as well, I just seem to like the way it looks, as well as a tiny bit of a heel to make them look more dainty.

I can tell I'll be getting a lot of wear out of these shoes and if I do I may have to pick up the white pair as well...

RECENT WARDROBE ADDITIONS

Friday, 6 June 2014

First thing first, sorry for the lack of posts, I have been swamped with coursework and revision and so needed to prioritise. But, I have picked up a few fashion items recently and thought they would be worth a share considering I have been preferring fashion over beauty recently *gasps*

In Topshop (quite a fair while back) I found this slightly cropped blue checked light slouchy top. It was £10 in the sale I believe, and I have got so much wear out of it that I probably would have paid full price. Another sale item was this monochrome jersey gingham pencil midi skirt from New Look which I paid a mere £3 for. This is from the teen/kids section but it fits me so all is good.

Also from New Look came the chunky 'cleated sole' sandals that have featured in almost all of my outfit posts recently. They were £24.99 which isn't bad for this type of shoe, and the price is justified with how versatile they are anyways. As well as the shoes, I finally got my mitts on some 'Mom Shorts' after seeing Megan style them so well, and these cost me £19.99
In H&M I came across this light boxy mint green polka dot shirt for only £12.99 and practically threw it onto the till. I know they did have a pastel pink gingham version so I may have to go back and get myself that one too. Also from H&M came the necklace and the neon yellow 'aviator' style sunglasses, each totalling £1-£2 in the clearance.

More recently I went to London and had a spare half an hour nearby Westfield and so I had a quick look in Forever 21, and came out with 3 accessories items. I got another pair of sunglasses, these are all over black with two gold details and are fairly oversized. These were only £4.90 and I am hoping the sun arrives soon so I can wear them. I also got this star necklace for £2 and the pack of earrings for £2.50 - Forever 21 accessories are so affordable.

A bit of a rambly one today, but expect to be seeing a bit more of that in the upcoming week or two as I am going to do some major shopping with friends at the weekend, not that I need anything else...

ADDING COLOUR TO MY WARDROBE

Saturday, 17 May 2014

T-SHIRT: TKMAXX
LEATHER JACKET: DOROTHY PERKINS (OLD)
BAG: H&M
JEANS: PRIMARK
NECKLACE: H&M
SHOES: NEW LOOK

Well, that's a post title none of us thought would make an appearance on this blog. Considering my last outfit post was titled 'all monochrome everything' we have gone on a a huge contrast, but when I wore this outfit I felt very Spring/Summer appropriate, though don't be expecting me to ditch the classic monocrhome wardrobe staples anytime soon.

This heavily printed colourful tee has been an unexpectedly well worn item in my stash, and I think the slightly longer than average white sleeves balance it out completely. It is also waistline skimming too, and sitting just above the lightwash jeans I think it's the perfect combo.

So, that was the second installment of my outfit posts, and it would appear that I'm stepping out of my comfort zone a little..

ALL MONOCHROME EVERYTHING

Sunday, 11 May 2014

PLAID SHIRT: NEXT £16 (SALE)
DISCO PANTS: PRIMARK £16

Today marks the day in which I will be putting up an outfit post and what should be an ongoing theme most weekends if you enjoy this one (let me know in the comments).
I am a lover of monochrome and so putting this outfit together was no chore, and I feel like the Next Plain/Flannel shirt really made the outfit come together - so a thanks to Megan for letting me borrow hers, I am not on the hunt for one of my own.

The chunky sandals with the turned up disco pants seem to add a bit more 'glam' if you will to the casual upper half of the outfit, and I honestly think the balance is just right with this outfit.

Do let me know if you enjoyed this post, I plan for them to be quite concise when I put them up, as a nice end to the week of posts here on the blog.

A NEW WARDROBE ADDITION: CHUNKY HEELED SANDALS

Monday, 5 May 2014

Since Megan has been wowing me with her sense of style these past few weeks, (as well as Lily Melrose), I have been determined to build up the staples in my wardrobe, and the prime place to start for me was a pair of shoes - and in particular, I was after some chunky sandals with a heel.

I ended up going a little higher on the heel than I was anticipating, but the inch of platform at the front kind of levels it out. As a teen, I haven't had much experience with heels but I have no problems walking in these which is a massive plus. For £24.99 I feel like these look so much more expensive and I'll definitely be getting my wear out of them.

They are so simple, and I can dress them up and down (trust me, I have been experimenting - as you will see from the upcoming outfit posts I have planned), and I even went as far as trialling them with frilly socks - is that still a sin? I am actually tempted to buy myself the same pair in white - I might as well complete the duo...?

All I need now is to build up the rest of my wardrobe with basics and staples. I am planning to make an outfit post a new feature on weekends - how would you lovely people feel about that?
